When it’s time to hit the road, don’t pack a heavy suitcase full of books.
For portable and affordable Spanish language learning, download an e-book!
There’s just one catch.
Nowadays, everybody and their mother is publishing e-books.
It’s almost too easy to do—and now the internet is totally overrun.
So, in every modern Spanish language learner’s life there comes a time when e-books enter the midst.
Some e-books will set you on the golden path to success. Others will plunge you into the muddy waters of confusion and boredom.
The latter are often produced by hacks who think, “I’ll make a terrible e-book full of keywords, wait for gullible buyers and make a quick buck.”
That’s why picking the right one is so important.
There’s a huge difference between slapped-together e-books and those boasting polished, high-quality content.
Now here’s where it all gets tricky: even after sifting out the low-quality material, the right e-book may not be the same one for everybody.
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. To which Spanish e-book should I go?

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the 10 best e-books available online that teach the beautiful Spanish language.

Well, as it turns out, a lot!
This book teaches you Spanish by using carefully-crafted strategies to maximize your productivity. The author, Dagny Taggart, is truly passionate about learning and his enthusiasm shines right through the text.
You’ll be walked through the whole language acquisition process from getting the pronunciations right to conjugating verbs and holding meaningful conversations with native speakers in record time.
It’s easy to use, easy to understand and comes highly recommended by native speakers.
Madrigal’s Magic Key to Spanish
This book, illustrated by the famous artist Andy Warhol, says “no” to rote memorization and instead gives the magic keys and shortcuts to unlock the Spanish language. The methods are unlike those traditionally used in schools. For example, it teaches grammar in an innovative way by starting in the past tense.
It’s well-paced, clearly structured and presented in a no-nonsense manner. It weeds out needless complications and accelerates language acquisition. One of the most important features of the book are the drills that painlessly incorporate vocabulary and improve conversational skills.
How to Become Fluent in Spanish
Most e-books tell you that anyone can be fluent in Spanish, that it’s easy peasy, a Sunday walk in the park. This one tells you something different. It makes it clear from the get-go that fluency requires hard work and dedication…on top of more hard work and dedication.
However, it demonstrates that, with the right system, fluency is within reach for anyone with enough self-motivation. The book really pounds Spanish into your brain by focusing on word lists, memorization of passages, reading aloud and conversational practice…all to be done on a daily basis — no exceptions or excuses!
The book is short, only 32 pages. So it’s refreshingly concise and straight to the point. The author’s voice is very readable and he’s generally very realistic in his approach. He proves that there’s no hidden secret to becoming fluent in Spanish. What’s the approach then? Practice! Practice! Practice!
1001 Most Useful Spanish Words
True to its title, the book showcases the most important words in Spanish. At its core, this is primarily a vocabulary building tool. The author has done a great job expounding on the words by not only giving the definition, but also giving examples of how the word can be used in a Spanish sentence. Going even further, English translations of the sentences are provided, thus enriching the reader’s understanding of the word.
The book also has neatly categorized word lists that feature the Spanish names of days, months, numbers, colors, foods, family and animals. All the essentials to get you up and running.
Although the book doesn’t attempt to be totally exhaustive (because that would be really freaking hard — if not impossible) it has done an excellent job in delivering what its title promised.
501 Spanish Verbs (Barron’s)
It’s been said that fluency in Spanish begins with its verbs. For someone to be considered proficient, they must learn how to conjugate the Spanish verbs.
This book takes the learner by the hand and shows them exactly how to use verbs in all 15 tenses and moods. It’s a conjugation hub where the verb’s different tenses are presented in easy-to-follow chart form. So you get everything in a single page, making the words easier to commit to memory.
This book is a must-have for anyone who wants to learn the nuances of Spanish.
Conquer 918 Spanish Verbs
This book is another excellent resource when it comes to understanding those infamous Spanish verbs. It’s written in a friendly and conversational style, and the lessons are well-structured – progressing from the stable regular verbs and continuing with the more difficult ones in one sure step after another.
Get this book if you want to get a grip on how those irregular verbs get conjugated. It helps you understand why they do it, how it works and how it affects the other elements in the sentence.
First Spanish Reader: A Beginner’s Dual-language Book
How would you like an e-book that not only teaches Spanish, but has 41 selections of short stories to boot? The source text is written by well-known Spanish and Latin American writers and captures the richness of their respective cultures. And because this is a dual-language book, the English translations are found on the opposite pages – aiding learners to grasp the meaning of the piece.
This charming selection opens with the most manageable verb forms (present-indicative) and rounds up with a rich sample of future and conditional verbs.
Exercises and drills follow the selection and instill more lessons for the students. There’s also an excellent glossary at the end which precludes any need for outside reference materials.
The book is not only for beginners but also intermediate learners who need an engaging Spanish refresher.
Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Pronouns and Prepositions
We’ve gone over the e-books that focus on those flamboyant Spanish verbs. Now, it’s time for the “CUÁL” and “QUÉ” to have a go at it. In this one, we’ll look into the language’s tricky pronouns and prepositions.
This book manages to teach the 15 core topics in a fun and easily digestible manner – even alluding to celebrities and other pop culture icons for added entertainment.
It also provides ample opportunity for practice, containing 100 engaging exercises that’ll be all the practice you’ll need to achieve total mastery. They drill home the “whys” and the “whens” of Spanish pronoun and preposition usage. Intermediate learners will get the most out of this book. It’s right up your alley if you know the basics and want to get into some finer details.
It’s a must-have in your arsenal of Spanish e-books.
I have only presented 12 e-books here but, rest assured, there are plenty more excellent e-books that effectively teach the Spanish language. The important thing to remember when choosing a book is to note if it’s geared to your level and learning style.
If the book is too easy for your taste, then you’re wasting time with it.
On the other hand, if the book is too far beyond your reach, then you’re wasting just as much. In learning Spanish, as in real life, there’s a sweet spot that makes everything worthwhile.
Let me also say that, as in any worthwhile endeavor, you will experience setbacks and stumbles. But don’t even think of quitting. Persevere, practice…and do it all over again. Don’t worry about a thing. Every little thing is gonna be alright!
