dir
(personal pronoun) (dative)
you; to you; for you; from you; from you; (for) yourself
If a part of the sentence is on the receiving end of the direct object in the sentence (eg; hearing the truth / getting a gift), or of an implied object in a surrounding clause, (He told me, *that you were coming*) then it is what we call the 'indirect object'. The indirect object always goes in the dative case.
