{"id":52196,"date":"2023-06-03T17:32:58","date_gmt":"2023-06-03T21:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/?p=52196"},"modified":"2025-06-02T11:58:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T15:58:10","slug":"gerundios-e-infinitivos-en-ingles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/english-esp\/gerundios-e-infinitivos-en-ingles\/","title":{"rendered":"Gerundios e infinitivos en ingl\u00e9s: la gu\u00eda con la que sabr\u00e1s cu\u00e1ndo usar uno u otro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>S\u00ed, lo de los infinitivos y gerundios en ingl\u00e9s es un dolor de cabeza a veces.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a1Y es que hay verbos que solo van con infinitos, otros que solo van con gerundios y otros que pueden ir con ambos!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a1Una locura, lo s\u00e9!<\/p>\n<p>En este post te lo explico para que lo entiendas mejor y seguro que con la pr\u00e1ctica lo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/english-esp\/frases-basicas-en-ingles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conseguir\u00e1s dominar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a1Vamos a por ello!<\/p>\n<p>[fluentu-toc]<\/p>\n<h2>El infinitivo en ingl\u00e9s: qu\u00e9 es y cu\u00e1ndo usarlo<\/h2>\n<p>El infinitivo es la forma b\u00e1sica del verbo que lleva <em>to<\/em> al principio: <em>to do<\/em>, <em>to sleep<\/em>, <em>to love,<\/em>\u00a0<em>to create<\/em>&#8230; Aunque dependiendo de la oraci\u00f3n la part\u00edcula <em>to<\/em> puede eliminarse.<\/p>\n<p>Por ejemplo, en <em>She sleeps <\/em>(\u00abElla duerme\u00bb) no ponemos <em>to sleep <\/em>porque lo conjugamos en la tercera persona del presente simple del verbo <em>to sleep<\/em>: <em>sleeps<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Por tanto, el <strong>infinitivo tiene dos formas<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>infinitivo con <em>to<\/em><\/strong>: <em>to<\/em> + ra\u00edz del verbo<\/li>\n<li><strong>infinitivo sin <em>to<\/em><\/strong>: s\u00f3lo la ra\u00edz del verbo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Algo que suele liar un poco es c\u00f3mo formar la <strong>negativa<\/strong> del infinitivo, pero es muy f\u00e1cil: acu\u00e9rdate de a\u00f1adir el <strong><em>not<\/em> antes del infinitivo<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>I decided <strong>not to go<\/strong> to the party.<\/em><br \/>\nHe decidido que no voy a la fiesta.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>I&#8217;d rather <strong>not discuss<\/strong> that topic.<\/em><br \/>\nPreferir\u00eda no hablar de ese tema.<\/p>\n<h3>Cu\u00e1ndo usar el infinitivo con <em>to<\/em><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Como sujeto de la oraci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Esta forma <strong>no es muy com\u00fan<\/strong>, es muy formal y suele emplearse m\u00e1s en el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/english-esp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ingl\u00e9s escrito<\/a> que en el hablado. Aun as\u00ed, \u00a1tenemos que mencionarlo!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><strong>To err<\/strong> is human, to forgive divine.<\/em><br \/>\nErrar es de humanos, perdonar es divino.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><strong>To be<\/strong> or not to be, that is the question.<br \/>\n<\/em>Ser o no ser, esa es la cuesti\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">P<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>ara expresar finalidad o prop\u00f3sito<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Es el segundo verbo de la frase y se usa el infinitivo para expresar el prop\u00f3sito del primer verbo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>I went to the store <strong>to buy<\/strong> some groceries.<\/em><br \/>\nFui a la tienda a comprar algunas cosas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>We exercise<strong> to stay<\/strong> healthy.<\/em><br \/>\nHacemos ejercicio para estar sanos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>They worked extra hours <strong>to save up<\/strong> <strong>for<\/strong> a new car.<\/em><br \/>\nTrabajaron horas extra para ahorrar para un coche nuevo.<\/p>\n<p>En espa\u00f1ol, este <em>to<\/em> lo traducimos como \u00abpara\u00bb. Si te fijas, ver\u00e1s, como hemos comentado, que el infinitivo con <em>to<\/em> va despu\u00e9s del primer verbo (en estos casos, <em>went<\/em>, <em>exercise<\/em> y <em>worked<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3<\/span>. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Para indicar el uso previsto de algo<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>F\u00edjate que aqu\u00ed el infinitivo con <em>to<\/em> va despu\u00e9s de un sustantivo o pronombre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>He offered her a chair<strong> to sit<\/strong>.<\/em><br \/>\nLe ofreci\u00f3 una silla para que se sentase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>My friend gave me a recipe <strong>to try<\/strong>.<\/em><br \/>\nMi amigo me dio una receta para que la hiciese.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Despu\u00e9s de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/english-esp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adjetivos<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Las oraciones siguen la siguiente estructura:<\/p>\n<p>Sujeto + verbo <b><i>to be<\/i><\/b>\u00a0+ adjetivo + (<b><i>for\u00a0<\/i><\/b><i>u\u00a0<\/i><b><i>of<\/i><\/b>\u00a0+ alguien) + infinitivo con\u00a0<b><i>to<\/i><\/b> + resto de la oraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>It&#8217;s important <strong>to stay<\/strong> focused during exams.<\/em><br \/>\nEs importante estar centrado cuando hay ex\u00e1menes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Sara is happy for her brother <strong>to pursue<\/strong> his dreams.<\/em><br \/>\nSara se alegra de que su hermano siga sus sue\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Despu\u00e9s de los adverbios <em>too <\/em>y <em>enough<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Estos dos adverbios se colocan antes del adjetivo, adverbio o sustantivo al que modifican.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>I have enough books <strong>to read<\/strong> for the summer.<\/em><br \/>\nTengo suficientes libros para leer en verano.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The coffee was too hot <strong>to drink<\/strong> right away.<\/em><br \/>\nEl caf\u00e9 estaba demasiado caliente como para beberlo en el momento.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. <\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Despu\u00e9s de pronombres interrogativos<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Hay verbos que pueden ir seguidos de una part\u00edcula interrogativa como <em>how<\/em>, <em>what<\/em>, <em>where<\/em>, <em>when<\/em>, <em>who<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Algunos de estos verbos son: <em>ask<\/em>, <em>know<\/em>, <em>tell<\/em>, <em>explain<\/em>, <em>wonder<\/em>, <em>figure out<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>I don&#8217;t know <strong>where to go<\/strong> on vacation this year.<\/em><br \/>\nNo
