This means any time a student isn&#8217;t sure of what a word means, they can<strong> click on it to see an in-context definition<\/strong> with plenty of text and video examples, or add it to their flashcards to review later.<\/p>\n<p>Reviews consist of different types of interactive exercises that include speaking practice, and questions adapt to each student&#8217;s comfort level with the words. Among other activities, students can find a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elllo.org\/english\/Games.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">section devoted to a game<\/a> where they listen to a short audio description of a picture and choose the one that fits.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the <strong>listening selections are easily downloadable and free<\/strong>. They also have a quiz or two for vocabulary and comprehension, and there are transcripts of everything. Each level has <strong>20 readings with an audio recording.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After listening to the audio, there are three quizzes to choose from that increase in difficulty. I appreciate that the program asks students to fill in the answer instead of selecting one of the multiple-choice responses.<\/p>\n<p>One of the quizzes really tests students by requiring them to look at a series of phrases and put them in the correct sequence. Lessons come with a preparation activity, an audio recording and two tasks to complete when finished.<\/p>\n<p>Younger learners will be interested in their <a href=\"https:\/\/learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org\/listen-watch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English for kids page<\/a>, and you shouldn&#8217;t hear any complaints from teenagers about their <a href=\"https:\/\/learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org\/skills\/listening\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English for teens<\/a> page, which uses audio on situations and topics relevant to teenagers.<\/p>\n<h2>7. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/learningenglish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC Learning English<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-audio-files.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5706\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-audio-files.png\" alt=\"esl listening websites\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This is another gigantic site with <strong>a variety of media options for all different levels<\/strong>. It includes full courses and shorter specialized audio for other topics.<\/p>\n<p>The site goes into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/learningenglish\/english\/features\/witn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">current events<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p02pc9s1\/episodes\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">serial programs<\/a> for immersive lessons. If you&#8217;re looking for formats that can more easily fit into the classroom, it also has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/learningenglish\/english\/features\/6-minute-english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201c6\u00a0Minute English\u201d<\/a>\u00a0(as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p02pc9wq\/episodes\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201c6 Minute Grammar\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p02pc9xz\/episodes\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201c6 Minute Vocabulary\u201d<\/a>) audio lesson podcasts, most of which are downloadable for free for 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>The accents lean toward British English, which is good for getting a greater variety of accents if you&#8217;re in an environment that teaches American English.<\/p>\n<p>The site is also available in different languages, allowing lower-level learners to navigate it more easily.<\/p>\n<h2>8. <a href=\"https:\/\/learningenglish.voanews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VOA Learning English<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-websites-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-websites-4.jpg\" alt=\"esl-listening-websites\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This one is admittedly smaller in scope, but it&#8217;s clear and easy to use. It&#8217;s also a great source for <strong>audio and video related to current events<\/strong>, this site&#8217;s bread and butter. Audio and video are specially made for non-native speakers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are sections that highlight\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learningenglish.voanews.com\/archive\/learningenglish-programs-radio-science-in-the-news\/latest\/1579\/1579.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">science news<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learningenglish.voanews.com\/z\/987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">idiomatic expressions<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learningenglish.voanews.com\/a\/2749381.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">life in the USA<\/a>. There\u2019s even\u00a0a page with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learningenglish.voanews.com\/z\/3619\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one-minute English lessons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Audio files and videos can easily be downloaded by clicking &#8220;Direct link&#8221; and choosing the file size, and below the selections are a transcript and a section that highlights vocabulary used in the story. There&#8217;s also a page with a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/learningenglish.voanews.com\/podcasts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">podcasts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>9. <a href=\"https:\/\/zappenglish.com\/podcasts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zapp! English<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-websites-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22577\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-websites-5.jpg\" alt=\"esl-listening-websites\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Podcasts are a fool-proof way to improve your students&#8217; listening skills. You can find episodes that deal with culture and etiquette as well as ones focused on grammatical aspects of the language.<\/p>\n<h2>11. <a href=\"https:\/\/realenglishconversations.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Real English Conversations<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-48389 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshot-2024-05-29-12.13.57-150x63.png\" alt=\"Real English Conversations logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"63\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Along with a nice variety of free English audio files, this site offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/realenglishconversations.com\/memberships\/member-plans\/fluency-programs\/trial-lesson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trial course<\/a> that\u2019ll help students remain disciplined during the learning process.<\/p>\n<p>This is great for anyone who doesn\u2019t have many English-speaking learning partners since it\u2019s focused on <strong>teaching real and natural English<\/strong>. Students will no longer have to be intimidated by those who are fluent in English because with adequate practice, native speech will be much easier to understand.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to an MP3 download, students get a PDF transcript and speaking and listening activities to make the most out of each lesson. They&#8217;ll also be guided on things like understanding people with accents very different from theirs or being able to watch English movies without the aid of subtitles. Pretty comprehensive, in my opinion.<\/p>\n<h2>12. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esl-lab.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Randall&#8217;s ESL Cyber Listening Lab<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-websites-6.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/1\/esl-listening-websites-6.png\" alt=\"esl listening websites\" width=\"200\" height=\"37\" \/><\/a>This is just one of Randall Davis\u2019s many sites. There are\u00a0<strong>hundreds of listening quizzes<\/strong>\u00a0on a variety of topics\u2014so many that your ESL students might have a hard time choosing where to start!<\/p>\n<p>For example, if they&#8217;re interested in fishing, they could start with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esl-lab.com\/fishing\/fishingrd1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-minute recording about a fishing trip<\/a>. If you\u2019re working with beginners, they\u2019re probably already fluent in social media, so this recording about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esl-lab.com\/socialmedia\/socialmediard1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media web sites<\/a>\u00a0should be right up their alley.<\/p>\n<p>When you select an exercise, Randall provides a pre-listening activity along with the audio recording and quiz.<\/p>\n<p>There are even quizzes for academic purposes and life tips.
