Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, access to online Chinese radio stations are just a few clicks away.<\/p>\n

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of Chinese radio stations that you can stream.<\/p>\n

They cover a wide range of topics\u2014from news headlines<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0music<\/a> to politics and much more\u2014providing quality learning\u00a0and<\/em> entertainment for anyone who wants to practice their listening skills from the comfort of their\u00a0home<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That’s why I’ve created a list of five online Chinese radio stations<\/strong> for you that not only make Chinese listening fun and informative, but relatively easy as well.<\/p>\n

RFI Chinese is a France-based Mandarin radio station that delivers high-quality streams on a number of different topics. Their news broadcasts are particularly good, and the international news coverage is very well-researched.<\/p>\n

\"chinese2. CNR-1’s Voice Of China<\/a><\/h2>\n

Category:<\/strong> Chinese Culture<\/p>\n

China National Radio (CNR) is one of the best radio outlets for finding out more about Chinese topics. Their premier channel “Voice of China” is a great place to hear more about Chinese news, politics and culture, and it’s a great way to broaden your vocabulary on these topics.<\/p>\n

3. SMG (Shanghai Media Group)<\/a><\/h2>\n

SMG (Shanghai Media Group), is one of China’s largest media corporations: offering both radio and television programming for the city of Shanghai. Given the city\u2019s status as a blooming cultural and artistic hub, it’s a great place to tap into China\u2019s vibrant culture.<\/p>\n

4. RTI (Radio Taiwan International)<\/a><\/h2>\n

RTI is excellent for beginner to intermediate learners because it has transcripts available for many of their articles, and both audio and text are easily accessible through its website.<\/p>\n

Remember that RTI is a Taiwanese radio station, so there will be a Taiwanese accent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be different programs at various times of the day and week, so check out what interests you. Some categories include \u65b0\u95fb<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(x\u012bn w\u00e9n<\/em>) for news and \u8282\u76ee\u00a0<\/strong>(ji\u00e9 m\u00f9)<\/em> for Chinese stories and dramas.<\/p>\n

5. TuneIn<\/a><\/h2>\n

TuneIn gathers information for radio shows and stations. It’s also free and conveniently available as an app for your iPhone<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0Android<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here you can find Chinese talk radio stations worldwide, including Chinese Radio Network<\/a>\u00a0based in New York and\u00a0CRI News Radio<\/a> in Beijing.<\/p>\n

CRI News Radio runs 24 hours a day and has programs for all interests, including \u201c\u73af\u7403\u6559\u80b2\u201d (hu\u00e1n qi\u00fa ji\u00e0o y\u00f9<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Global Education), \u201c\u65b0\u8d22\u5bcc\u65f6\u95f4\u201d (x\u012bn c\u00e1i f\u00f9 sh\u00ed ji\u00e0n<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 New Fortune), and \u201c\u542c\u7535\u5f71\u201d (t\u012bng di\u00e0n y\u012dng<\/em> \u2013 Movie Listening).<\/p>\n

Why Listen to Chinese Radio Online<\/h2>\n

Hear Tones Correctly and Clearly<\/h3>\n

At street levels in China\u2014especially in cities outside of Beijing and its immediate surroundings\u2014there are many pronunciation irregularities and local slang, but radio is much more standardized.<\/p>\n

Radio speech is far more grammatically and tonally precise.<\/strong> Part of this is due to the government’s focus on teaching people Standard Mandarin (Putonghua)<\/em> and its associated tones instead of more regional derivatives.<\/p>\n

Most national Chinese radio stations that you can listen to online avoid such localized pronunciation and, as such, are a great source for listening practice.<\/p>\n

But while this is excellent for improving your listening skills in the beginner stages, be careful not to rely only on Chinese radio.<\/p>\n
