Reflexive Verbs and Daily Routine<\/h2>\n

You probably noticed that a lot of these words end in se<\/em>, which means they’re reflexive verbs.<\/a> This is the verb type we use when the agent of the action is acting on his or her own self.<\/p>\n

When an agent is acting on someone else, we might still use pronouns like me, te\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0le\u00a0<\/em>to indicate who is being acted upon, but the verb is no longer reflexive.<\/p>\n

Let’s look at the difference between despertar\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0despertarse<\/em> (to wake up).<\/p>\n

If we’re going to use the reflexive version of this verb, then the acting agent must be the same as who the agent is acting upon, so you’ll start with the reflexive infinitive verb despertarse<\/strong><\/em> and turn that into:<\/p>\n

Me despierto <\/em>(I wake up)<\/p>\n

Te despiertas <\/em>(You wake up)\u00a0<\/p>\n

Se despierta<\/em> (He\/she wakes up)<\/p>\n

To indicate that someone is acting on someone else, you might have:<\/p>\n
