Aren\u2019t they fancy?<\/p>\n<p>Some examples include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">pap<strong>\u00e1<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> (dad)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">,<\/span><\/span><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> cu<strong>\u00e1<\/strong>nto<\/span><\/span><\/em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> (how much),<\/span><\/span><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> est<strong>\u00e1<\/strong>bamos<\/span><\/span><\/em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> (we were)<\/span><\/span><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">beb<strong>\u00e9<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> (baby)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">, <\/span><\/span><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"><strong>\u00e9<\/strong>l<\/span><\/span><\/em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> (he),<\/span><\/span> <em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">ingl<strong>\u00e9<\/strong>s<\/span><\/span><\/em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"> (English)<\/span><\/span><em><span class=\"ILfuVd\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hgKElc\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>s<strong>\u00ed<\/strong><\/em> (yes)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>c<strong>\u00f3<\/strong>mo<\/em> (how),<em> don<strong>\u00f3 <\/strong><\/em>(he\/she\/you donated),<em> canci<strong>\u00f3<\/strong>n<\/em> (song)<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>t<strong>\u00fa<\/strong><\/em> (you)<\/p>\n<h3>The Diaeresis: <em>\u00fc<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>The <em>\u00fc<\/em>\u00a0or <em>u<\/em> with diaeresis\u2014which is the two dots above the <em>u<\/em>\u2014is rare but does make an appearance. It sounds similar to the English &#8220;w&#8221; when it&#8217;s used in a word.<\/p>\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>biling<strong>\u00fc<\/strong>e<\/em> (bilingual)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>el ag<strong>\u00fc<\/strong>ero<\/em> (the omen)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em>la leng<strong>\u00fc<\/strong>eta<\/em> (the tongue)<\/p>\n<h3>The Tilde: <em>\u00f1<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Next, we have the <em>n<\/em> that becomes<em> \u00f1<\/em>. The <em>n<\/em> with a tilde over it became part of the Spanish written alphabet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoughtco.com\/where-did-the-n-come-from-3078184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">in the 12th century<\/a>. Configuring your regular keyboard to the international keyboard is a breeze.<\/p>\n<h3>For <strong>Windows<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1. Go to the control panel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2. Hit &#8220;Change Input Method&#8221; and click on the &#8220;Languages&#8221; option.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">3. Select \u201cUnited States International\u201d as your default language.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">4. Click OK and you\u2019re all set!<\/p>\n<p>The key to the right of the space bar on your keyboard is the right Alt key. When you want to type a Spanish accented letter, hold down the right Alt key as you type the vowel.<\/p>\n<p>For example, holding down the right Alt key and pressing the appropriate letter produces the accented version (eg. right Alt key + u = <em>\u00fa<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>But to type <em>\u00fc<\/em>, you need to press the right Alt key + y.<\/p>\n<h3>For Mac<\/h3>\n<p>If you use a <strong>Mac,<\/strong> there\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/V-DZg3HmjfE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a super video tutorial<\/a> to walk you through the process.<\/p>\n<p><lite-youtube videoid=\"V-DZg3HmjfE\"><\/lite-youtube><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1. Go to the Menu &gt; System Preference &gt; Language and Region &gt; Keyboard Preferences &gt; Spanish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2. Click on \u201cAdd\u201d and you should be ready to type!<\/p>\n<h2>Adding a Spanish Keyboard to Your Phone<\/h2>\n<p>Most of us don\u2019t leave home without our phones. And if you\u2019re a Spanish language learner, you know that your phone is a valuable resource. It\u2019s great for vocabulary building with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/spanish\/best-spanish-translation-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">translation apps<\/a> and powering up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/spanish\/spanish-writing-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing practice<\/a> with chat and text conversations.<\/p>\n<h3>For Android Devices<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcitizen.life\/how-install-switch-keyboard-input-language-android\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">an <strong>Android<\/strong> user<\/a> it\u2019s just as easy to pull up a Spanish keyboard on your phone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1. Go to Settings &gt; Languages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2. Depending on your device, you may need to disable the \u201cuse system languages\u201d switch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">4. Hit the switch beside Spanish to add it then return to the home screen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">5. Swipe to the side of the space key to access the Spanish keyboard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">6. Swipe the other way to go back to English.<\/p>\n<h3>For iOS Devices<\/h3>\n<p>Fortunately, accessing a foreign language keyboard <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT202178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on your <strong>iPhone<\/strong><\/a> isn&#8217;t difficult!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1. Go to Settings &gt; General &gt; Keyboard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2. Tap on &#8220;Keyboards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">3. Add the Spanish keyboard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">5. Tap the globe icon to see the list of keyboards you\u2019ve added to your phone.<\/p>\n<p>Every accent mark (punctuation points, too) will appear on the keyboard.<\/p>\n<h2>Type Spanish Accents Using TypeIt<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/2\/type-spanish-accents-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-27848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/2\/type-spanish-accents-1.png\" alt=\"type-spanish-accents\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s possible to take a shortcut to get Spanish accents without a Spanish keyboard and without memorizing a code. For example, you can first type in Spanish and then read what\u2019s on the screen out loud.<\/p>\n<p>Reading along to Spanish transcripts while listening to the language can also be really helpful.<\/p>\n<p>Having visual, audio and textual cues will give you a greater chance of remembering which words have accent marks.
