There are six indirect object pronouns in Spanish:<\/p>\n
Indirect object pronouns (also known as pronombre de objeto indirecto<\/em>) answer the question “to whom” or “for whom.”<\/strong> They receive the direct object\u2014the thing being acted upon.<\/p>\n For example:<\/p>\n Yo compr\u00e9 pizza para mi familia.<\/em>\u00a0(I bought pizza for my family.)<\/p>\n Here, the pizza is the direct object, because it’s what you bought. But mi familia <\/em>(my family) is the indirect object because they’re the recipient of the direct object and are indirectly affected by the action of the verb.<\/p>\n Therefore, if you’re going to use an indirect object pronoun for the above sentence, you’d say:<\/p>\n Yo les<\/strong> compr\u00e9 pizza. <\/em>(I bought pizza for them<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n If you’ve already learned the direct object pronouns<\/a>, you might’ve noticed that these are identical, except for the third-person pronouns le <\/em>and les<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Here’s how they’d look in action:<\/p>\n\n
