Qu\u00e9bec French, also commonly referred to as qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois<\/em> French<\/strong>, is based on the French that was spoken in Paris during the 17th and 18th centuries. It’s the most well-known of the several dialects of Canadian French, along with the likes of Acadian French<\/a> and M\u00e9tis French<\/a>.<\/p>\n During the 17th and 18th centuries, when France was expanding its colonial reach throughout the globe, Qu\u00e9bec became the center of the Francophone world as new settlers grew the local population.<\/p>\n Notably, many of the settlers in Qu\u00e9bec (then known as “New France”<\/a>) used the standard French spoken by France’s royal and aristocratic classes.
