It features a trident and a slew of killers who can&#8217;t recall their actions after losing consciousness the night of each crime.<\/p>\n<p>Commissaire Adamsberg believes all these murders lead back to one person, who may have also been responsible for an accusation regarding his brother. To reconcile the problem, Adamsberg goes on the hunt for the man responsible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vargas won the Crime Writers&#8217; Association Duncan Lawrie International Dagger for this haunting story. He leaves his car to try and stop the Supreme Mind who controls the society and derail his Ultimate Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Yanne&#8217;s writing is <strong>easy to follow and extremely engaging<\/strong>. Robin is a loveable character who&#8217;s trying to turn this out-of-control society back to normal, and it&#8217;s impossible not to want to figure out how the story ends.<\/p>\n<h2>6. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/L%C3%A9tranger-Collection-Folio-no-French\/dp\/2070360024?tag=fluentu-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>&#8220;L&#8217;\u00e9tranger&#8221;<\/em><\/a> (The Stranger)<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-89488 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/3\/8130inT26AL._AC_UF10001000_QL80_.jpg\" alt=\"L'etranger book cover\" width=\"160\" height=\"249\" \/><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Author: <\/strong>Albert Camus<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This book from 1942 tells the story of Meursault, a detached and apathetic Algerian Frenchman, who becomes embroiled in a senseless murder on a beach.<\/p>\n<p>Meursault&#8217;s emotional detachment and indifference to societal norms make him an outsider, and his trial becomes a commentary on the absurdity of human existence and the arbitrary nature of justice.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;L&#8217;\u00e9tranger&#8221; <\/em>remains <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>seminal work in existential literature<\/strong>, provoking deep reflections on the human condition and existence. If you&#8217;re a fan, you&#8217;ll be delighted to know that you can read all seven books in French.<\/p>\n<p>Reading the series in French is a great way to <strong>learn the intricacies of written conversation<\/strong>. Much of the dialogue focuses on school-age gossip and friendships, along with some magic and spells.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reading level is a <em>Folio Junior\u00a0cat\u00e9gorie 6,<\/em> aimed at French children between 9 and 13 years old. We follow him from his birth in 1936 until the end of the Second World War.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a sad and terrifying tale of <strong>growing up in Nazi Germany<\/strong>. This novel uses a fair amount of wartime vocabulary and allows learners to learn slang and words specific to this historical period.<\/p>\n<p>Though it&#8217;s almost 500 pages long, it makes for a great first foray into intermediate French young adult literature.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>12. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Kamouraska-Anne-Hebert\/dp\/2020004755\/?tag=fluentu-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Kamouraska&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Kamouraska (French Edition)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/31kDlWY3u-L._SL500_.jpg\" alt=\"Kamouraska (French Edition)\" width=\"150\" height=\"180\" \/><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Author:<\/strong> Anne H\u00e9bert<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kamouraska&#8221; is one of the most advanced books on this list, but<strong> fans of<\/strong> <strong>psychological thrillers<\/strong> and experimental novels will love it. The story is full of suspense and intrigue (and is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biographi.ca\/en\/bio\/estimauville_josephine_eleonore_12E.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">based on a real murder)<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At times, it&#8217;s written in the informal stream of consciousness of its main character Elisabeth, a French Canadian woman living in Qu\u00e9bec who kills her husband to be with her American lover.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The narrator shifts between the first and third person. Why not try something shorter instead?<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Tout est fatal&#8221;<\/em> is the translated version of Stephen King&#8217;s famous\u00a0&#8220;Everything&#8217;s Eventual.&#8221; It&#8217;s a <strong>collection of 14 short stories<\/strong>, a few of which have been turned into movies (such as &#8220;1408&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re already familiar with the plots, this is an excellent way to enjoy Stephen King&#8217;s signature scare power while learning French.<\/p>\n<h2>14. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Short-Stories-French-Penguin-Parallel\/dp\/0140265430?tag=fluentu-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Short Stories in French&#8221;<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-89486 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/site\/\/3\/51IN0fhEG4L.jpg\" alt=\"Short Stories in French: New Penguin Parallel Text book cover\" width=\"153\" height=\"232\" \/><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Author: <\/strong>Various<\/p>\n<p>This is a collection of contemporary French short stories edited by Richard Coward. It&#8217;s a useful tool for those looking to enhance their language skills in an immersive and enjoyable way.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Approach Intermediate French Novels\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>As you read a book in French, you should have a pen or pencil handy to <strong>mark unfamiliar words and phrases<\/strong>. If you&#8217;re engrossed in a story, just mark it and come back to it later.
