While we&#8217;ve been focusing on public domain books so far, there are also some newer books that are made available for free by the publisher.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you don&#8217;t have an e-reader, you can almost always download books in a format that allows you to read them on your computer or another device, as long as you&#8217;re not specifically trying to download a book made for a device outside of your region.<\/p>\n<p>So once you&#8217;re ready to go searching for free French books on your own, here are a few places to start:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can find free digital books for Kindle and Nook by searching the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Kindle-eBooks\/b?ie=UTF8&amp;node=154606011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/u\/NOOK-Book-eBook-store\/379003094\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Barnes &amp; Noble<\/a> websites respectively (even if you don&#8217;t own either e-reader).<\/li>\n<li>You can also check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/browse\/languages\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the French-language section on Project Gutenberg<\/a>, which offers multiple download options for each book, including Kindle and epub (which is compatible with Nook).<\/li>\n<li>Two other sites with similar formats are the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internet Archive<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/openlibrary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Open Library<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/market.cantook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cantook<\/a> offers a wide variety of public domain French books and other free French books digitally, as does <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebooksgratuits.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">e-books <em>libres et gratuits<\/em><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Basically, there&#8217;s never any reason to let a lack of funds stand between you and sufficient French reading material.
