Use the Best Apps and Resources<\/h2>\n<h3>Set Your Pace and Schedule<\/h3>\n<p>There are so many apps out there with daily lessons meant to fit a pace that you&#8217;re comfortable with.<\/p>\n<p>Want to jump right into hour-long lessons? Go for it! Only want 15 minutes a day? This is doable.<\/p>\n<p>But to really get a handle on Japanese in four weeks, I suggest<strong>\u00a0studying Japanese for 30 minutes a day at a minimum<\/strong>\u2014aim for more study time whenever you can!<\/p>\n<h3>Start with Reputable Apps<\/h3>\n<p>Japanese learning tools and apps allow you to study wherever you are. Make use of that commute or replace your morning newspaper for a month with these, instead.<\/p>\n<p>You have tons of choices\u2014there are Japanese apps focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/best-kanji-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reading<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/japanese-grammar-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grammar<\/a>, for instance, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/learn-japanese-free-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some of them are free<\/a> too. Take it one step at a time.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Talk and Listen to Native Japanese Speakers<\/h2>\n<p>You&#8217;ll hear any linguistic teacher tell you this: If you want to understand a new language, <strong>you can&#8217;t just study on paper.<\/strong> You&#8217;ll need to listen to native speakers.<\/p>\n<p>This is true for many reasons, the biggest one being <strong>comprehension skills.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may think you have an idea of what Japanese sounds like, but you really don&#8217;t get the nuances and pronunciation until you hear it from a Japanese person&#8217;s mouth.<\/p>\n<p>My Japanese only improved steadily when I made sure to <strong>listen and speak Japanese constantly<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Find Language Exchange Friends<\/h3>\n<p>For listening and communicating with native Japanese speakers,<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/japanese-language-exchange\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">language exchange sites<\/a><\/strong> are among my favorite resources. These sites match learners with native speakers: you teach someone English (or your native language) and in return, they teach you Japanese.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of my favorite language exchange programs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hellotalk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>HelloTalk<\/strong><\/a> is a chat program where learners can find and easily chat with native speakers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/hellotalk-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This review<\/a> goes over its most important features.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conversationexchange.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Conversation Exchange<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0matches users to native speakers in their area wishing to exchange language tips and help in person.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mylanguageexchange.com\/Search.asp?selX3=30\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>My Language Exchange<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0allows users to reach out to native speakers and language learners from all over the world just to say &#8220;hi&#8221; or to start a conversation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can even go further and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/make-japanese-friends-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">make Japanese friends<\/a> online through your interests.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Watch Japanese Media<\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t feel ready for one-on-one communication, you can still get some <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/learn-japanese-listening-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">listening practice<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>by\u00a0watching Japanese movies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/learn-japanese-tv-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">television shows<\/a> and dramas as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Some of my favorite spots to binge-watch Japanese media are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crunchyroll.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Crunchyroll<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has a huge collection of completed and currently-airing anime, from popular titles like &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.crunchyroll.com\/naruto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naruto<\/a>&#8221; to less-known gems like \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.crunchyroll.com\/aria-the-animation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aria the Animation<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiancrush.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Asian Crush<\/strong><\/a> is the place to go for Asian entertainment, including hundreds of Japanese TV shows, movies and web videos.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/browse\/genre\/6721?bc=83\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Netflix<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has an ever-growing library of animated and live-action titles to watch, including the popular Japanese reality show \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/search?q=terrace%20house&amp;jbv=80067942&amp;jbp=1&amp;jbr=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terrace House<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Can You Really Learn Japanese in Less Than 30 Days?<\/h2>\n<p>Yes.<\/p>\n<p>If I said no, this would be a pretty short blog post wouldn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>With <strong>hard work, the right tools and daily practice,<\/strong> just about anybody can learn usable Japanese.<\/p>\n<p>You can reach a high enough level to survive a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fluentu.com\/blog\/japanese\/japan-study-abroad-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stay abroad in the country<\/a>. If you&#8217;re just learning for enjoyment, you can use this guide to fast-track yourself to mid- to high-beginner level.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s get one thing clear:\u00a0<strong>You won&#8217;t become fluent in a month<\/strong> (unless you&#8217;re some foreign language genius). I could speak basic Japanese after a month of intensive study, but it took me more than two years to consider myself fluent (including being able to read!).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Of course, with the right resources, you can absolutely learn what you need to get by pretty quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I recommend printing this page or writing down the steps with their resources, and going through each step and linking one by one. As you complete each resource, cross it off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Give yourself a deadline<\/strong> to reach the end of the post: a month from when you begin studying.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the month, you should be able to <strong>form coherent sentences, read some basic text (with furigana) and understand some spoken Japanese.<\/strong> You&#8217;ll be surprised at how much you&#8217;ve learned!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Are you feeling a little less nervous about your future Japanese language-learning journey?
